The GPMDB Portal for Restricted Access Data Sets allows users to access specific data set stored in GPMDB that are not available to the general public. These restricted datasets cannot be accessed using the normal GPMDB interface, meaning that they will not appear in lists created by search queries on the main database, for example keyword or peptide sequence searches.

Access

In order to obtain access to a specific dataset, simply enter the data's GPM accession number and a valid email address. GPM accession numbers are assigned when data is originally analyzed: these accession numbers are in the format GPMdddnnnnnnnn, where

1. ddd is a 3 digit identifier for the search computer; and
2. nnnnnnnn is an eight digit serial number for the particular search results.

The entire accession number, including the GPM prefix, must be entered correctly to access the data.

The resulting display will allow the user to manipulate the data using all of the displays associated with the current GPM interface, such as pathway analysis, GO analysis, peptide displays, protein displays, etc. Some specific display functions may be limited to prevent inadvertent exposure of restricted data to external users, however every effort will be made to minimize this type of hinderance.

Logging

Normally, GPMDB use is not specifically logged to obtain information about how and when a user is utilizing the database. When a Restricted Access Data Set is accessed, however, extensive logging occurs to track how that data is used. The database provider reserves the right to block users or restrict their access in any other way, to prevent unauthorized use of this information.

Removing Data Restrictions

If the data submitter would like to change the status of a particular data set to be available publicly, simply email a request containing the GPM accession numbers for the data to be made public to rbeavis@thegpm.org. To make sure that the data belongs to the requester either:

1. send the request from the email address that was entered when the data was originally searched; or
2. if no email address was included or you no longer have access to that email account, please make a case in the email that the data was originally submitted by you.
